Endodontics

Endodontics (root canal treatment) is a form of dentistry concerned primarily with the roots and nerves in the roots of a tooth.

Root canals treatments are required when the pulp portion of the tooth in the roots become diseased. Most of the times caries in the tooth causes disease of the pup but on occasions other causes may result in the nerve of the tooth to die and discolour the tooth.

The dentist removes the diseased pulp  and nerve under local aneasthetics and fills the canals with a special filling material.
