Dermal Fillers

With age, the structural components that maintain a youthful face, start to break down. Volume loss occurs, often causing flattening of the cheeks (mid-face), hollowing under the eyes, and/or line formation around the nose, mouth and chin, often called “smile lines”. Lips may also lose volume and definition, with lip corners turning downwards. These changes may also occur due to rapid or significant weight loss, smoking, or excessive sun exposure, and may lead to a tired-looking, aged, and sometimes unhappy appearance.

Dermal filler treatment with hyaluronic acid injections are an effective method to immediately restore lost volume in the face, rejuvenate skin, and create a more youthful appearance. Dermal fillers can also plump up, shape and define lips. Results are immediate. Dermal fillers are made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally found substance that is already present in our skin. As we age, hyaluronic acid breaks down to contribute to the formation of lines, so hyaluronic acid dermal fillers can restore the depletions to turn back the hands of time.

Treatment process

A numbing cream is applied to the skin before treatment, to allow a comfortable experience. Some people experience mild discomfort. Treatment time may vary from 15 minutes to 45 minutes depending on the number of areas being treated.

Patients are given aftercare and we encourage reviews to follow up our patients after two weeks.

Which dermal fillers do we use?

We use hyaluronic acid fillers that are FDA approved. We tend to mostly use Juvederm fillers, the leading brand with a very high safety profile (Juvederm Ultra, or Juvederm Volift, Juvederm Voluma, or Juvederm Volbella) Your practitioner will discuss the most suitable filler for you.

Which facial areas can dermal fillers treat?

1.Nasiolabial Folds

A commonly noticed crease, nasiolabial folds are grooves that develop from the edge of the nose to the corners of the mouth. These lines become become deeper and more visible with time, but can be reduced very simply with dermal filler treatment to plump up the skin.

2.Marionette lines and corners of the lips

Volume lost in the lower face can result in lines and shadows under the corners of the lips and either side of the chin, sometimes leading to a ‘downward looking smile’. This volume can be easily restored with dermal filler injections in this area to immediately create a more youthful, and happy appearance.

3.Lips

Lips can be plumped with dermal fillers to increase volume and definition and improve shape and proportion. Also an anti-ageing treatment, lip enhancement can restore lips to how they once were, keeping happy youthful looking smiles. Some women with many lines above the mouth, also feel that their lip stick “leaks up” around the lips when applied. Simple easy conservative treatment to the vermillion border of the lips with dermal filler can solve this.

4.Cheek Enhancement/ Indirect tear trough treatment

With ageing or weight loss, volume is often lost in the cheeks. Missing volume in the mid-face results in flattening of the cheeks, hollowing under the eyes, deeper grooves, and more “heaviness” in the lower face, causing an aged or tired appearance. Dermal fillers can be used to restore cheek volume and definition, resulting in an overall more youthful shape to the face, a healthier fresher appearance under the eyes, and a subtle lift of the skin.

5.Chin Augmentation & Jaw line definition

In keeping with aesthetic facial proportions, a nice chin can sometimes make a great difference. Certain jaw structures or “bite patterns” can also influence the appearance of the chin. Some feel concerned about a “puckered chin” or “orange peel chin”. Chin enhancement with correctly placed dermal filler can improve chin structure, definition and texture immediately.

Jaw definition also reduces with age, with the appearance of jowls. This can be improved with dermal fillers along the jaw, to tighten, lift and define the jaw.

6.The ‘Non-Surgical Face Lift’ (8 point lift)

If you have noticed flattening of the cheeks, nose to mouth lines, drooping corners of the mouth, jowl formation, and a poorly defined jaw, this may be the treatment for you. A dermal filler combination treatment of 8 different points in the face, involving cheek enhancement, nose to mouth lines, corners of the mouth, pre-jowl region, jaw line, and in some cases the pre-temporal region. The overall result is a subtle lift of the face with increased definition and volume where needed. Leaving you looking younger and feeling rejuvenated, without a dramatic or obvious change. Our clients are usually told by friends that they “look great but nobody can tell they have had dermal filler treatment”, which is exactly the outcome we aim for. Treatment time is 40-45 minutes.
